I planted some mexican fence post cactus in my front yard last october. They have been doing well, but now that it is getting hot, the sunward side is starting to turn yellow. They get the full afternoon sun. Is this sun damage? Is there a cactus sun block that can be applied?

Go to your local nursery and purchase 30% sun blockout shade cloth. I reccomend covering the entire length of your fence post cactus until end of the summer. This time next year you may not need to cover it since it will already be acclimated to the sun.

Does 30% shade cloth mean it blocks 30% of sun or it only lets in 30%(and blocks 70%)?

The shade cloth blocks out 30% of sun light.

I went to 3 nurseries and none sold 30% shade cloth. Some only had a 90%. Do you know the name of a couple places that sell the 30%? Thanks!
