we have a tall (9-10 ft) plant that we want to move to another location in the yard. i'm not sure what species it is. it has three "trunks" about 7 inches in diameter. it had beautiful yellow blooms a few weeks ago. we live in houston, TX.

my main questions are:
how big of a root ball?
watering?
special soil layer in new location?
anything unique to cacti?

i tend to have poor luck with plants by the way.

thanks,

Your rootball needs to be six to eight inches from the main trunk all around the base. The depth of the rootball should be twelve to fourteen inches. Add water after you finish transplanting and contiue watering every two to three weeks until the end of warm season. It's imprtant to have a well draing soil for your cacti. I advise mixing together 60% topsilwith 25% perlite and 25% sand. After a couple of months you should apply an organic fish/sea kelp fertilizer once a month for the remainder of the season.
