" Barrel cactus leaning precipitously, but now has 3 beautiful babies right near the soil line on the high side! Saw your post about re-setting it deeper but what about the babies? Can I remove and repot them? (apologies - I did post this as well in other barrel cactus posting threads but didn't see an answer)

Have a new barrell cactus - it is growing these long limp arms from the top and sides, they are now bent over, they have a head that is making it bend over. What should I do with these off-shoots. I never saw anything like it. Off shoots are to big for the cactus.

Are there such things as male and female cactus. ??

Hope you can answer my questions. I have had it since May. Philadelphia, has hot humid weather and I keep it in the window with afternoon sun.

Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

You will need to email me some photos of your cactus before I can give you accurate advice. Most cacti are cross gendered being neither male or female.

I have a barrel cactus that was doing great until I watered it. It now has these growing plague of white/tan splotches on one side and they seem to be multiplying.

Is my cactus dying?

The best thing is to stop watering your cactus. The spots you have described are from over watering. To prevent your cactus from deteriorating more you may need to repot it in new clean well draining soil. Put a couple inches of pea gravel at the bottom of the pot to assure good drainage. Never add water while the soil is still damp or moist. Stick your finger as far down the pot as possible to see if the soil is dry before adding water. When it comes to watering cacti,'less is always best'.
