indoor cactus getting too big, root ball too small to support growth, top heavy, how do I prune? Live in NYC apt. cactus loves light and has become huge. Started as 2 2ft stalks, and now is 7ft tall (8 years later) with tons of growth and branches off the 2 stalks. It's about to fall over its so top heavy, but don't want to kill it by pruning incorrectly. Suggestions? I'd be willing to donate, sell to someone who would appreciate how amazing it is! It's growing in ordinary potting soil. Jody

Take a pair of sterilized hand pruners or a serated bread knife and make your cuts only at the joints nearest to the main trunk or largest branches. Disifect all open cut wounds by spraying on alcohol or peroxide. You can also disinfect it with a one to seven bleach and water solution.
