Barrel Cactus dripping dark smelling water

I have a golden barrel cactus as an indoor plant for the last 3 years without incident. 2 days ago is started to release dark, foul smelling water from the base of the plant pot ? What can I do ? is it dying ? Thanks in advance. Warwick
thecactusdoctor 106 post s 4-Jul-2008 4:47 AM	Remove most of the soil around the barrel so you can see where the infected area is. Proceed to cut out all the decayed tissue with a sterilized knife. Make sure you clean out the infected area well and disinfect the wound with alcohol or peroxide. Allow the barrel to air dry for three to four days before returning the soil around the base of the cactus. The Cactus Doctor
